Giancarlo Fisichella, also nicknamed Fisico, was born in Rome, Italy on 14th January 1973 and developed a passion for motorsport very early: he was only 8 years old when he started training with karts on the Guidonia circuit. His continued drive for success led him to join the Italian Formula 3 championship. In 1993, Fisico finished up as a runner-up and in 1994 won the championship following important victories in Monaco and Macau. He briefly joined the Alfa Romeo team to enjoy a spell in the International Touring Car Championship in 1995 and 1996.
Giancarlo joined the Formula 1™ circuit at the age of 23, when Minardi hired him for the 1996 season, making his long awaited debut. In the years to follow he then raced for Jordan in 1997, switching to the Benetton Team from 1998 – 2001. Fisico made a return to the Jordan Team in 2002 and won his first race, the Brazilian GP, but after one season he left to move to Sauber for greater results.
His talent would not go un-noticed and he joined the Renault Team in 2005. Fisico won the season opening race, the Australian GP and helped the team win the Constructors Championship. He also claimed victory in the 2006 Malaysian GP. Fisico had a short spell at Force India and finished his Formula 1™ career at Scuderia Ferrari in 2009.
In 2010, he fulfilled the role of third driver for Scuderia Ferrari and also competed in the Le Mans Series at the wheel of an F430 GTC in the AF Corse team. Since 2011, he has been racing in GT competitions at the wheel of a Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 with the AF Corse team, firstly in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and then in the World Endurance Championship.
In 2012 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with “Gimmi” Bruni and Toni Vilander and in the following year he was runner up in the drivers’ Championship, but was a determining factor in Ferrari’s and AF Corse’s wins in the Constructors and Teams Championships respectively. Later in 2014, he won again in the Le Mans Series with Bruni and Vilander, and had also raced in the United States for the season participating in the Imsa SCC series.
In 2015-2016, Giancarlo raced there with the Risi Competizione team. He is also the current 2016 WINNER of the 6H di Roma in the GT Class.
Giancarlo Fisichella brings a wealth of experience with some incredible career highlights – 13 years of being part of the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1™ and Le Mans Series winner, 24H of Le Mans winner and a WEC champion. We’re excited for an amazing year ahead.
