- The Formula E season 4 gets underway in Hong Kong on December 2nd
- The DS Virgin Racing Team completed a successful pre-season FE test
- They'll sport a full all-British line-up to compete for the Formula E Championship
On the back of a successful pre-season test in Valencia, the DS Virgin racing team have their own fan-boost on as they zoom towards the season opening Hong Kong E-Prix, the curtain raiser for an exciting fourth season of Formula E.
FIA Formula E is a truly groundbreaking endeavour. Not only does it push the boundaries of automotive technology in ways that are directly relevant to us all, but also it engages fans through music, social media and gaming in ways never before seen at the top levels of world sport.
The DS Virgin Racing Formula E team partnered with Kaspersky Lab on the eve of the inaugural Formula E race in New York in season 3. This partnership sees the teams working together to design and implement world-class cyber security solutions to protect against known and upcoming cyber threats.
In Season 4, DS Virgin Racing Formula E will have the first all-British driver line-up to challenge for the 2017/18 FIA Formula E Championship.
In preparation for the new season, a new car was unveiled during pre-season testing. The DSV-03 marks an upgrade on the end of season 3 car that famously won the NYC E-Prix) and has an impressive setup:
Chassis: DSV-03 homologated by the FIA.
Max. Speed: 225km/h (FIA limited)
Acceleration: Estimated to be < 4 secs
Max. power: 200kW
Racing Energy Recovered Power: 150kW
Wheels: 18” O.Z Racing wheel
Tyres: Michelin Pilot Sport EV 2 with 245x40R18 (AV) and 305x40R18 (AR)
With such a powerful setup the DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team will be aiming to leave the competition trailing in its wake.
Now let’s meet the DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team drivers:
Sam Bird – United Kingdom.
In the 2014/15 season, Sam achieved a podium finish in the FIA World Endurance Championship with AF Corse Ferrari, and during the Tudor United Sports Car Championships he broke the Lap Record during the Daytona 24 Hours. During the same season Sam participated in the FIA Formula E Championship with Virgin Racing where he achieved two wins, including a home win at the London E-Prix, finishing fifth in the championship overall. Bird is racing for DS Virgin Racing for a third season in the 2016/2017 championship. In his second season Sam continued to impress by gaining more pole positions on the grid than any other driver, one that lead to a spectacular win in Buenos Aires.
Alex Lynn – United Kingdom.
23-year-old Lynn brings a wealth of experience and success in single-seater racing, having won the Formula Renault UK & GP3 titles alongside multiple GP2 race wins and a Macau race win together with his recent sports car debut and development role within F1.
Sam Bird and Alex Lynn should be well equipped to take on the 1.15mile challenge through each lap and 10 tight-twisty turns that await them at the Hong Kong Central Harbourfront Circuit on Dec 2nd and 3rd. Felix Rosenqvist holds the current lap record at 1m02.947s and we hope to see that time fall to the advanced DSV-03 under either Sam Bird or Alex Lynn.
