- DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team supercharge for the next season
- All-British driver line up for the fourth season with Sam Bird and Alex Lynn
- Fully focused to mount a serious challenge for the Formula Championship
- The Team Are Now in Their Third Year
The brands of DS and Virgin are synonymous with being avant garde and pioneering so to see this collaboration in FIA Formula E some say was about “when” and not “if”.
The team, named officially as DS Virgin Racing Formula E, is competing in Season 4 of the world's first global electric vehicle championship.
FIA Formula E is a truly groundbreaking endeavour. Not only does it push the boundaries of automotive technology, in ways that are directly relevant to the man on the street, but also it engages fans in ways never before seen at the top levels of world sport, through music, social media and gaming.
The mash up of these channels and the sport represents the best possible combination for the latest type of entertainment in motorsport.
Both Virgin and DS thus share a passion for technology and through DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team they aim to demonstrate that passion by helping the team create a race-winning car.
Added to the two great brands the team naturally boasts two great drivers too and a first ALL-British line-up for the exciting fourth season.
Sam Bird – United Kingdom.
In the 2014/15 season, Sam accomplished a podium finish in the FIA World Endurance Championship with AF Corse Ferrari, and during the Tudor United Sports Car Championships, broke the Lap Record during the Daytona 24 Hours. During the same season Sam participated in the FIA Formula E Championship with Virgin Racing where he achieved two wins, including a home win at the London ePrix, finishing fifth in the championship overall. Bird is racing for DS Virgin Racing for a third season in the 2016/2017 championship. In his second season Sam continued to impress by gaining more pole positions on the grid than any other driver, one which lead to a spectacular win in Buenos Aires.
Recently Sam Bird was able to claim victory in the inaugural NYC ePrix for the DS Virgin Racing Team - a remarkable achievement. Now he has his eyes firmly fixed on challenging for the Formula E Champion in it's fourth season.
Alex Lynn – United Kingdom.
23-year-old Lynn brings a wealth of experience and success in single-seater racing, having won the Formula Renault UK & GP3 titles alongside multiple GP2 race wins and a Macau race win together with his recent sports car debut and development role within F1.
In January 2017, he became the official reserve and development driver for DS Virgin Racing and making his race debut with the team for the New York rounds in June where he secured pole position, becoming only the second driver since Beijing to have ever done so.
Season four sees Alex stepping up to a full-time role with the team where he’s looking to continue his winnings ways.
